Silent Lunches

Starting Spring Semester 2025, you are welcome to join us every Monday, 12-1 pm, in the Stevenson Lounge of MacKay for a silent meal together. A practice common for many monasteries, yet wildly atypical in American culture, this silent meal time is a space for you to simply be in the presence of God and others. Without the noisiness of talking, the pressures of social commitments, or the hassles of work, this space will be a chance for you to begin your week with a habit of rest, an attitude of Sabbath. The door will be closed to keep the quiet of the room, but it will be marked by a welcome sign. Please feel free to enter or depart the room as you like. We will recognize God’s presence in the quiet with a brief prayer at 12:45 pm. This space is free and open to all students, staff, and public visitors.
